Autumn Care: Getting Ready for Fall
Getting ready for the fall & winter seasons is one of my favorite prep times. With the change is seasons comes the change in climate, wardrobe and skincare lineup. Colder weather means less moisture in the air. Below I’m sharing a few tips and tricks by category that I do to stay glowy and moisturized.
- Serums are a great way to boost the skin with extra moisture during the dry season. I tend to lean towards the brightening and softening serums in order to keep that summer glow going through the fall and winter. My favorites right now include Caudalie VinoPerfect for brightening and glow, and Glossier Super Bounce for supple skin. New to the roster is Herbivore Botanicals Prism Exfoliating Glow Potion. I’ve been using this product for about a week now, and I love how my skin feels. It checks all the boxes for me for brightening, even tone and blemishes.
- During colder seasons I like to use hydrating oils at nighttime like the Oribe Radiant Drops Golden Face Oil. According to Oribe, these drops contain 13 natural oils that deeply hydrate, calm and rejuvenate skin. The formula also restores brightness and healthy glow, and leaves skin feeling softer and smoother. Just what we need! With combination skin, I use face oils at nighttime, as I find them too heavy for under a daytime makeup routine.
- Heavy creams are another way I lock in moisture. During the day I use my HG SKII RNA Power Radical New Age Cream. Nighttime I apply something thicker like La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Cream or La Mer Crème de la Mer. With very expensive creams like this, I use the applicator to make sure I’m not using too much, but during the colder months I’ll use an extra swipe. Feels super luxurious and I wake up with super soft and hydrated skin.
- Alternating between moisturizers and overnight face masks is something I do all year round. My favorite overnight mask right now is Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask. I’m pretty certain it’ll be on my Fall/Winter Holy Grail list. This past week I’ve been trying the new Summer Friday’s Overtime Mask. With it’s fall branding, this would be a perfect mask to mention, but it’s a 10 minute exfoliating mask rather than overnight. After using my skin feels soft and exfoliated, however I think the pumpkin spice fragrance is a bit overwhelming. I’d suggest a much lower fragrance percentage. Don’t get me wrong, I love all pumpkin food and lattes though!
- It’s important to remember all types of care during this cold season including face, body and hair. Likewise, I use masks and moisture creams religiously to keep my hair soft and healthy. On a daily basis, I use Oribe’s Supershine Moisture Cream on damp hair, working it in extra on the ends. Once or twice a week I’ll use a hair mask, like Oribe Signature Hair Mask.
- I’m addicted to applying chapstick because I love having soft, kissable lips. Oribe Balmessence Lip Treatment or Dr. Hauschka’s Lip Care Stick are my current obsessions. These are the best!
- For Body Care give some extra attention to your hands, knees and elbows. I apply my HG moisturizers, L’Occitane Almond Milk Concentrate & Delicious Hands heavily on those areas during winter. Cold weather can lead to dry and cracking skin, so it’s important not to neglect those areas. Also, drinks lots of water – this will help everything, skin, hair, lips and body!
I hope some of these tips can help you create a routine that keeps you hydrated and glowing this fall and winter. Comment below with any questions about my routine or particular products!
